Q. How does Charter select the networks it carries and offers its subscribers?
A. Charter considers a number of factors that determine which channels to include in its lineup. Some things that affect Charter Communications programming selection include popularity, cost, financial perspective of the company that is offering the channel, availability of channel space, and how the addition of this channel will contribute to the variety of offerings.
Q. I’m not receiving all the channels I am paying for. What should I do?
A. If you’re not receiving channels above channel 13, check to see that you are set to ‘Cable’ CATV mode in your main setup menu. If you are set to ‘TV,’ ‘Air,’ or ‘Antenna,’ you’re set up incorrectly. If the problem turns out to be that you’re jumping past channels that should be there, access your TVs main menu and select the ‘Auto-Tune’ or ‘Auto-Program’ option. Note* It takes up to 30 minutes to receive all channels you have ordered.
Q. I’m a renter. How do I request the installation of extra outlets?
A. Charter Communications requires written authorization from property management to install and/or move outlets.
Q. How do coaxial and fiber optic cables differ?
A. Coaxial cable is insulated copper or copper-coated wire. It can transmit television, data and telephone signals. Fiber optic cable is comprised of glass or plastic. Fiber optic cables transmit the same signals, but at a much greater bandwidth.

  CHARTER TELEPHONE®

Q. How does Charter Telephone® use Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology?
A. Unlike other VoIP providers, calls travel over Charter’s private network, which eliminates the need for you to have an Internet connection. With Charter, your calls never rely on the public Internet, which can affect performance. Because of this, we are able to offer our telephone subscribers a Quality of Service guarantee, whereas other VoIP-reliant providers are able only to provide subscribers with a “best effort” pledge of service.
Q. How clear is Charter Telephone® reception?
A. The sound quality of Charter Telephone® is equal to that of traditional telephone service. In fact, many subscribers have notified us that the sound is actually better!
Q. When switching to Charter Telephone®, can I keep my existing phone number?
A. Yes. You may retain your existing phone number when transferring from other providers to Charter, at your existing residence. The only exception to this rule is in certain cases, subscribers moving from one location to another may not be able to port their existing number with the move. To find out how this may affect you, contact customer service and they will be able to research your specific case.
Q. Do I need to cancel my current telephone service before coming over to Charter?
A. No. Once you are ready to make the switch, simply order your Charter here at BuyCharter.com, and it will be taken care of. If you cancel service before ordering with us, you could stand a chance of losing your existing phone number. In addition, be sure to read up on any contractual obligations you may have with your current telephone service provider.
Q. Does Charter Telephone® Service require the purchase of additional equipment?
A. No. Charter Telephone® Service works with the telephones, wires and jacks you already have. As part of your package with Charter, we will install a Multimedia Terminal Adaptor (MTA), or telephone modem, for communication with the Charter network.
Q. Will I have to sign a service contract to subscribe to Charter Telephone®?
A. No. In fact, we offer you a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Q. Will my Charter Telephone® service be interrupted if there is a power outage?
A. Because Charter Telephone® service requires electricity to run, your telephone service will be interrupted when there is a power outage. However, you can prepare in advance with a battery-slotted MTA and a battery backup.
Q. What will the installation of the battery-slotted MTA and backup source accomplish for me?
A.You will get up to eight hours of standby time and up to five hours of talk time, once your power has failed. Ask your Charter customer service representative to upgrade and include this in your package if you didn’t order it with your initial service.
Q. How will Charter Telephone® service function with my monitored security system?
A. Charter Telephone® works with most monitored alarm systems. Of course, it is always recommended that you test operation and communication once your Charter Telephone® service has been installed.
Q. How will switching to Charter Telephone® Service affect the way my information appears in the phone book?
A. Your directory listing will not be affected when you make the switch to Charter, unless you specifically request that your information change. Requests for non-published and non-listed contact information are common examples of information that can change.
Q. Is Charter Telephone® 911-compliant?
A. Yes. In fact, Charter provides Enhanced 911 services, just as conventional telephone service providers do. In the event that you have an emergency – police, fire, or ambulance – just dial ‘nine-one-one.’ When you do, your call will be directed to the nearest public safety operator. Your address is included in the information that is received so that emergency services can be dispatched instantly.
